At this point, it is still possible to proceed forward with your Owner Operator LMIA application. Service Canada is the government department that issues LMIA’s and they are still operational as of March 18th, 2020.

On January 30th, 2020, the International Health Regulations Emergency Committee to the World Health Organization (WHO) declared the novel Coronavirus outbreak a “public health emergency of international concern.” It was not until March 11th, 2020 that the WHO declared COVID-19 as a pandemic. The rapid spread of this virus in other countries and jurisdictions has led to significant changes on public policy and national security.  On Monday March 16th, Prime Minister of Canada, Justin Trudeau, announced sweeping restrictions on international travellers to Canada. As of this point, only Canadians and Permanent Residents are permitted to enter Canada. There are some exceptions for immediate family members of Canadian citizens, airline personnel, and diplomats.

What does this mean for business immigrants to Canada?

visa will not admit you to Canada at this point as a foreign national. You cannot enter Canada with a work permit, visitor visa, or study permit. At this point, it is still possible to proceed forward with your Owner Operator LMIA application. Service Canada is the government department that issues LMIA’s and they are still operational as of March 18th, 2020.

How Does the Owner Operator LMIA Program work?

Immigrating to Canada under the LMIA Owner Operator Pathway with CIVS is outlined below. It is a pathway we have become experienced and specialized in. We have assisted many satisfied clients and families immigrate to Canada using this pathway. Schedule an orientation call with us or visit our Blog for success stories and documentation on the Owner-Operator LMIA pathway to Permanent Residency. The brief outline is described below:

Step 1: CONTACT US

We will evaluate your qualifications for immigration through this pathway

Reach out to us and we schedule an initial phone call after which we evaluate your eligibility for immigrating to Canada through the Owner-Operator LMIA Pathway. You can get a head start by filling out our Business Entrepreneur Questionnaire to determine your eligibility. Visit the blog section of our website for success stories, updates, and other relevant data to inform yourself about CIVS and the process

Step 2: CHOOSE A BUSINESS

We help you choose which business to start or purchase for your application

Based on your circumstances, experience, passions, the area of Canada you wish to settle in and other factors; we source a selection of businesses eligible for you and your family to immigrate to Canada if you are not looking to currently expand a business you own internationally or start one from scratch.

We prequalify a selection of businesses that are eligible for this program and that you may qualify to purchase. Some of the businesses are displayed through our CIVS Marketplace. For current businesses that are for sale, please visit http://civsmarketplace.ca/

Step 3: PURCHASE THE BUSINESS

We facilitate the purchase of the existing business and its assets to your new Canadian corporation

Prepare and ensure that you will have access to liquid cash/capital available and ready to be transferred to your new Canadian corporation to purchase your business. In our experience, we recommend a minimum of $250,000 budgeted to invest in the purchase, operation, and development of the business as you still may be currently abroad.

This process involves many administrative tasks that we have perfected with our partners to accomplish on your behalf while you still may be living in your home country.

Step 4: APPLY FOR LMIA

We compile, generate and present all the required documentation and represent your application to Service Canada for an Owner Operator LMIA

The LMIA applications we represent are the most thoroughly vetted and comprehensive applications in the industry. They usually are in excess of 700 pages and have exceeded 1000 in certain cases. We need your full cooperation and prompt communication to compile all the documents required.

Step 5: DEVELOP & INVEST

We continue to work on the development of your business and we can assist in managing your business asset in your absence.

This step requires extensive business development work on behalf of CIVS and our partners, including marketing, operations, accounting, and compliance-related tasks and procedures.

Step 6: IMMIGRATE TO CANADA

We perform what is required to obtain work permits for you and your family members

Once you have a positive LMIA decision, you are eligible to apply for a Work Permit online or at a port of entry (depending on your current status in Canada and country of citizenship). For example, visa-exempt citizens of Hong Kong are eligible to obtain their work permit at an airport port-of-entry on arrival to Canada. Visa-required citizens of India will either need a TRV to apply at a land port-of-entry or apply online for a Work Permit.

*As of March 18th, 2020, the COVID-19 outbreak will not allow foreign nationals to enter Canada. At this point you will need to remain in your home country until you become a Permanent Resident (through Express Entry draw or other means).

Step 7: OBTAIN PERMANENT RESIDENCY

We prepare you and your family members’ applications for Permanent Residency under the appropriate stream such as EE or PNP

We will not retain you if we do not believe you will be eligible to obtain Permanent Residency. Depending on your current circumstances, your pathway to PR can be in as little as 6 months from the date of LMIA approval.

Step 8: APPLY FOR CITIZENSHIP

We are qualified and prepared to help you and your family apply for Canadian citizenship once you have resided in Canada for an adequate time period.

Permanent Resident visa holders hold almost all the rights as Canadian Citizens besides the travel mobility to some other countries and ability to vote.

What business opportunities exist now?

Businesses are on sale: For an experienced individual with a high-net worth or a significant amount of liquid cash, this is a fantastic opportunity to purchase a Canadian business at a discount. Coronavirus has slowed down business in general, but for the experienced entrepreneur or business person, this presents opportunity to get into the market and purchase a business at a lower price.

Opportunity is ripeWith awareness towards personal hygiene and social distancing, businesses with delivery models have increased in demand since the spread of COVID-19. The large organizations are under restrictions from the government, yet the smaller, independent businesses can continue to operate and serve the local community.

Why start your immigration process today?

While the world turns, eligible applicants can apply for and receive up to a 200 point increase to their CRS score in the Express Entry pool via the Owner Operator LMIA Pathway to Canada.

Immediately upon issuance of a positive LMIA, the additional CRS points can be added to the Express Entry profile of the applicant. 200 CRS points can boost a candidates score and trigger an Invitation to Apply for Permanent Residence (even while a candidate waits for processing of a work permit in their home country)

All Canadian Permanent Residents and Canadian Citizens can enter Canada at any time.  No work permit is required.  Therefore, the Owner Operator LMIA Pathway can provide entrance security to foreign nationals currently not permitted to enter Canada
