Occupation in demand in Canada

 An invitation to apply may be given to immigration applicant who has a specific line of work experience for Canadian Permanent Residence through the Express Entry system and could be advantageous in provincial nominee programs.

There are two immigration pathways that Canada has, Federal and Provincial that has its distinctive basis. In federal pathway under the Express Entry system, it has three programs that have specific criteria’s, and which are the Federal Skilled Worker Class, Federal Skilled Trades Class, and Canadian Express Class.

Only the candidates with the amount of full-time, or equivalent part-time, work experience and considered skilled will be directed to Express Entry Comprehensive ranking system. Those qualified candidates should have an occupation under the rated skill type in Canada’s National Occupational Classification (NOC 0, A, B).

 

Provincial Nominee Program

Having work experience in a certain occupation is necessary to different provincial nominee streams, and some are connected to the Express Entry system. Every Canadian province has at least one program for immigration that uses a list of in-demand occupations to candidate’s consider qualification.

Provincial Nominees streams that require certain experience in specific occupations:

  • Alberta: Alberta Opportunity Stream
  • British Columbia: Tech Pilot
  • Manitoba: Skilled Worker Overseas
  • New Brunswick: Express Entry Labour Market Stream
  • Nova Scotia: Demand – Express Entry (Category B)
  • Ontario: Employer Job Offer: In-Demand Skills stream
  • Saskatchewan: International Skilled Worker – Express Entry and Occupation In-Demand sub-categories

List of most common professions targeted by these provincial streams:

  • (NOC 1311) Accounting technicians and bookkeepers
  • (NOC 1112) Administrative Assistants
  • (NOC 2174) Computer programmers service workers
  • (NOC 4214) Early Childhood Educators

Tech Occupations

Tech-related occupation is an example of the growing industry that is in demand in Canada right now especially in British Columbia, Manitoba, and Ontario. Having work experience in one of the pilot program is the main criteria for eligibility for the program, that bring forth to a fast-tracked permanent resident pathway for foreign workers and international students.

Occupation-specific draws

Some of the provincial streams have draws on specific occupations also.

Nova Scotia’s Express Entry that connects to Labour Market Priorities Stream that permits the province to look for Express Entry candidates with specific work experience for permanent residence. In 2018, Early Childhood educators, assistants, financial auditors, and accountants were selected for the draw.

Also in New Brunswick, the provincial stream selected and accepted candidates with specific experience through Express Entry Labour Market Stream, and some of the listed professions included were the tech-related occupations.
