Eligible Canadian citizens or permanent residents are able to sponsor their parents and grandparents to immigrate to Canada. For many years the Parents and Grandparents Sponsorship program was lottery based. However, announced on August 20th 2018, the IRCC announced it is rolling out a different PGP program. In 2019, on January 28th at noon Eastern time, you will be able to apply with an interest to sponsor form, and they are accepting these submissions on a first-in basis up to 20,000 spots. Once the 20,000 spots are accounted for, the form will close. Prior to 2019, this was a lottery based system rather than first in. According the IRCC website at the time of writing this post, it can take up to two years for sponsorship of a parent or grandparent to be processed.
If you are looking to sponsor a parent, grandparent, or both, and unsure how to navigate the revised application system, please book a free consultation with CIVS below.
